Directions to Get Started:

The bottles in our starter kit have a pre-measured amount of Glass Tattoo Gue and colored powders (COE 90). Follow the step-by-step instructions that are included with the kit or watch the video to see how it’s done and you are ready to create. Our Glass Tattoo Gue product is a natural food product and adding a small amount of household bleach keeps my bottles of colored Gue usable for weeks, even months.

Here is how the color is activated:

  • Using a 1/4 cup measuring cup, add ½ teaspoon of bleach then fill the cup with water.
  • Add water and bleach liquid to the bottle using a small funnel
  • Put the bottle lid on, turn upside down and tap until the powder falls into the liquid
  • Shake the bottle for a minute
  • Now use a chopstick to mix the contents
  • Put on lid and shake again
  • Let sit for 1 hour then the color is ready to use

Once the color is ready, you can create and make your design:

  • Place the 4” x 6” piece of glass (COE 90) on your bench
  • Put the suction lifters on the stencil corners then position it on the glass
  • Tap the bottle, nozzle side down on your bench to get the color into the tip
  • Hold the stencil steady with one hand then fill each cavity with Gue color
  • Use the Spreader Knife to smooth and level the color in each cavity
  • Grasp the lifter tabs then carefully and slowly lift the stencil straight up
  • Stand back and be amazed at how quickly and easily you created a design
  • You can also add bits of stringers and dicro chips to add more interest to your piece

Kiln Firing:

The Glass Tattoo® Stencil design that you have created is almost ready to go into the kiln. Allow 5 or 6 hours for it to dry, then put it in your kiln and use a standard fuse firing schedule. We like a to use a dimensional texture fuse level that is approximately 1375°F in our kiln. The step-by-step instruction sheet includes a detailed firing schedule.

What if You Don’t Own a Kiln?

If you don’t have your own kiln (yet) you should be able to find a local Art Glass Studio that will fire it for you (for a small fee). Even some ceramic studios offer glass fusing services.
