Maidens, Myths & Mermaids
Designs for 40 Stained Glass Window Panels
2 full-size patterns and 40 art glass designs realistically translate scenes from mythology and history.
by Jody Sheppard & Delina Sheppard
For centuries people have used mythology to describe and explain many great events of human experience. The 40 spellbinding stained glass panels in this collection illustrate the legends of love, adventure, exploration, and conquest. They examine the folklore of the Mermaid, of chivalrous Knights, dancing Maidens, Kings on horseback, consorts, musicians, lovers and so much more.
The author gives an overview and interesting tips of how she turns an oil painting into a stained glass design. Every project includes the pattern line drawing and 23 projects are shown fabricated with a color photograph while the remaining 17 are rendered as a textured line drawing with color suggestions. Most projects need to be enlarged to full-size and the book provides how-to information on 4 different ways to complete these enlargements. Two designs are provided as full-size patterns. In the printed book these are on large pullout pages in the back of the book, for the digital eBook version they can be printed on a desktop printer in tile format, then taped together to complete the full-size drawings.

Jody grew up in a Victorian house that was filled with stained glass windows. In the foyer, they stood twelve feet tall and colored light poured through onto the curved stairwell. She witnessed a world that was magically changed by glass. She studied Painting and Sculpture at the Vancouver School of Art in British Columbia, Canada. Then years later after completing a stained glass course moved into a career of designing for glass.
Delina grew up in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and studied Fine Art at the L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Montreal. For many years she was a free-lance Graphic Artist and a Professional Makeup Artist for CBC Television. After moving to Vancouver, British Columbia, she met Jody and began to collaborate on art glass projects. Jody created the designs and Delina fabricated the panels for the book’s photo gallery.
